I did twice against measles, mumps vaccine (in 1988), but I have symptoms of mumps, including swollen glands. Could the mumps contract?

There is a possibility. May-vaccine does not protect 100% against any disease. The MMR vaccine should be given in 2 doses, so if you have 1, may have lower immunity than if you die 2 Dose had. I would definitely call your doctor.
